I was told that I can get Audi TT brake rotors and calipers and bolt em right on, no conversion hassle. You guys know if that really IS true?

Here's the front rotor measurements I found:

GTI - 288 x 25 mm vented front discs [rear: 232 x 9mm solid rear discs]
TT Roadster Quattro L4 1.8L FI Turbo - Vented, 312mm x 25mm, 5/100

I have no idea what the 5/100 is, but it was listed in the description on autotechparts.com. It seems like there wouldn't be a problem with the dimensions, just not sure about everything else. I tried going with the highest performance TT cause I figured it'd have the best brakes.

This is gonna be sooo much cheaper and safer than an R32 conversion [$1300 ! and it would barely have clearance]

Thanks guys :)

I actually think it would be easier to go with 2005 GLI brakes, or 20th anniversary GTI brakes or GTI 337 brakes... Those should bolt right up to your spindle. You MIGHT need the caliper carriers though.

I think the TT brakes bolt up to the hub assembly differently. 5x100 means that is the lug bolt pattern. 5x100 is a pretty common bolt patter for 5 lug VWs. Most 4 lug VWs are 4x100. I think 100 stands for milimeters (perhaps that means the space between the lugs? I dunno.

you americans and your stupid imperial. i'm pretty sure it's millimeters. there was also 110 on other models of cars, but i'm not sure if vw used it.

I think the USA is slowly making the change... Most American vehicles are built with Metric sized bolts and such.;)

Well, I looked into the GLI ones and compared all 3...

all are from autotechparts.com, front rotors, drilled/slotted/vented and are zimmerman's:

GTI VR6 - 288mm x 22mm, 5/100

GLI - 288mm x 22mm, 5/100

Audi TT - 312mm x 25mm, 5/100

The GLI and GTI were exactly the same, price and all.

I know if I went with the TT's, I'd need to get calipers too, but I'd really like to go bigger. How much difference do you think just the upgraded rotors for my car [drilled/slotted/vented] would make? The TT's rotors are only $15 more for the larger braking area.

Well... I'm not one to talk you out of what you want to do, so I did some reasearch for you. All you need is TT carriers and the 312mm rotors. The calipier and pads remain stock. The caliper on the Jetta and TT is the same. You could order some Brembo calipers if you wanted to upgrade the caliper too. They should still fit under a stock 16" or 17" rim.

Thanks Diesel :)

Hmm, I didn't realize it would stay stock. I might as well get the upgraded rotors for my car [$85 each] and maybe get better calipers later on depending on the improvement.

It's not really what I WANT to do [ok, maybe a little, big brakes look so nice :) ], but more what I SHOULD do, ya know? I like going fast, but also like to be able to stop :D
