My speedometer stopped working about a month ago and my mechanic has told me it's the dashboard console itself that's bad. I actually believe it because of how much trouble I've had with it.

My question to the masses is this. I've heard rumors of being able to put in a newer VW console into my 95 Jetta III GL. I believe you can use A4 style...

Does anyone have any more info on this or know if this is true? I'm going to be checking out junkyards for one and I'm trying to figure out if I can pull a newer year than mine. That and the late 90's consoles look so much better...

Any help would be awesome!

the same thing happened to me and i just went to the junk yard and paid 50 bux for a consol with 60k on it.. but to answer your questions.. the whole speedo and etc can be taken out of 2000 cabrio (ONLY) and be put into an A3 jetta/golf

Yeah... I heard about that cabrio thing! Mabey you outta try that... Unfortunatly those are going to be pretty hard to find.... You can call VW parts place and ask if they have one.

Well, I've looked around and I've found quite a few consoles that are the same.

Now my only issue is that apparently it's against the law to synch up the odometer to the transmission. I think that's bunk.

Anyone else ever deal with this? I'm just curious how I'm supposed to handle my mileage when I finally decide to sell it.

I have a tag from the dealer stating that they replaced the speedo, and NO DEALER WILL TAKE MY CAR!!
Even with the certification sticker, it will always be labeled as "true mileage unknown", and dealers run from cars like this faster than a burrito fart runs down your leg.
I actually have had 2 replacements on my 98 GT. I only have 52k, but now it has no trade-in value.
Sorry for the bad news.
I would buy a working unit off of ebay and put custom dials on it and try to get one with similar or lower mileage and take the chance of not getting caught.
That's my two-cents worth.

burrito fart.... Muahahahah
Especially from that 24 hour burrito stand on 5400 south and the "Bangin-her" highway next to Papa John's.
Good burritos, but the Chorizo gives me the tooties!
