I'll post this here. =]

My Corrado broke down today on the way home from work. Got some gas, put it in, still wouldn't start.

Jumped it, idled for a bit, pulled the positive cable off, and it died immediately.

Normally I would say alternator, no questions, but recently I removed my dashboard to swap out the heater core, and I haven't put it back in yet. Been driving the car without the dash for roughly 22-24 miles, with about 5-6 starts in that time frame.

I've heard that there is a wire going through the gauge cluster to the alternaor, and without it you have an incomplete circuit, and the alternator doesn't charge the battery.

Anyone know?

Yeah... it operates the battery light. This circuit creates the electrical field around the alternator so that it can begin producing power. An alternator has no magnets therefore the coils must be energized before it can produce electricity. :)

Btw... ask and ye shall receive:

yep, plugged the cluster in, jumped it, runs fine. Going to recheck the voltage on the battery though to make sure the alternator still has the right voltage.
