Hey guys, I have an 01 Vr6, and I just started noticing a sound coming from around the front left of my engine (if your are looking from the front of the car). It sounds kind of like a hissing noise, and I'm not really sure what to do about it. Nothing has changed from the performance of the car, just the noise. Any suggestions?? Thanks

Does the hissing sound like air or more of a mechanical hiss?

I have a similar problem. My sound is more like intermittent chirps or squeaks that go along with the revolutions of the engine. I tried using belt dressing, but nothing changed.

It's only when at an idle though.

That sounds like a idler or alt bearing to me.

Is there any play in the pulley? See if you can "wiggle" the pulley from side to side... If there is any movement you should replace it.

I'm sorry. I actually meant the tensioner bearing...There was a good write up on vortex an how to repack it. Really easy DIY. It took no more than a half hour. I checked everything else around it when i did it, and it seemed to be ok. Thanks again

That sounds like a idler arm (http://www.racepages.com/parts/idler_arm.html) or alt bearing to me.

Bump. Yeah, it sounded like the idler is the main culprit here. Generally, an idler arm is attached between the opposite side of the center link from the Pitman arm and the vehicle's frame to hold the center link at the proper height
