Ive had my golf mark 4 1.8 t 20v turbo for just under a week now and ive noticed it smokes a little. it only does it when i start the car up and only last about 3 minutes then theres nothing. It mostly does it after the car has been stood a few hours. is there any cause for concern? thanks

First, what year is the car... How many miles... and what color is the smoke? Black or light blue / grey?

The color of the smoke can tell you a lot of things sometimes. Black means it's running rich (getting too much fuel). Blue or light grey means it's oil burning off. Steam which looks like white "smoke" could mean your head gasket has failed and it's burning coolant.
It is very easy to abuse a turbo car.... That's why I am always very skeptical whenever I consider buying a turbo car or somebody I know is considering. If it's a small amount of smoke on start up, but other wise runs well, starts easy and still has lots of power it's probably the valve stem seals showing their age.
How many miles on the car and who did you buy it from?
