For the speed it sounds like you want, turbo it =]

Turbo. The 2.0L aba engine will reliably deliver 200hp with proper fueling... Save up 1500 bucks and get everything you need at once.
The problem with "those rice boys" is they are too lazy and impatient to save up for the stuff that really makes their car fast and they end up with fart cans spray painted body pieces, wings that can make them fly... etc. SAVE UP THE DAMN MONEY and piece yourself a turbo system.

16v head+ standalone+ big turbo+ good tune+ a drivetrain that can hold the power= a fast 2.0. A basic aba turbo will give you enough power to have fun with, but if you take it to the track thinking you will be spanking srt4's and wrx's all day you will be dissapointed.

Thanks alot for all of your help. I currently am running just a cone filter and i am getting a Neuspeed P-Chip for the car as soon as i find one for a reasonable price. he he. On saturday i am getting a 2.5 inch exhaust installed on the car with a high flow cat and a turbo muffler for a cool $250. i cant wait to drive it with that stuff. An i also took a 99 Firebird today on the way home from the mall but it was one of my friends so we are chill.

2.5 is too big for a non turbo 2.0... you'll kill your torque. I'd say go with 2 inch and at the biggest 2 1/4.
About the SRT4 and WRX's.... You really can't compare a 2.0 turbo jetta to either of those cars. Both come stock with more hp than basic turbo 2.0 will deliver. A turbo aba is PERFECT for a daily driver... tons of bottom end torque, but as he said it'll never be a serious contender on the track.

you may try The Flowmaster Force II, I heard good feedbacks about it.. a good turbo and intake might also help..

I've been wanting to do a turbo kit on mine as well.
For now I have a intake, TT cat back stainless system (2 1/4) and a TT chip as well.
A Nuespeed short shifter in the mix also. Doesnt really make it faster just feels nice while shifting.
I've looked at the under drive pullies but for the cash you spend you get crap in return, just looks cool.
A cam would be my next step I think, a mild 268 is what I'm looking at. Dont want to have to replace all my springs and I don't want/ cant have a CEL on my dash. Dont want to be swapping cams every year to get it to pass our emissions test.
I may piece a turbo kit together over time next summer, we'll see.

If you want something mild for the ABA, I'd recommend the k24. As soon as I get mine tuned I'll take you for a spin!

I'll take ya up on that.
I was thinking of a K24 and a diesel manifold, just need to do the FM part.
As you know this is my daily so it has to be reliable.

What a better way to be reliable than to use factory parts! :D I like the internal wastegate, it simplifies a lot of things.

Does anyone have a good reference for doing a general turbo install? Preferably a Jetta III 2.0.

I did a home brew turbo project on my 94 Jetta 2.0L... It's pretty straight forward... a little fabrication, nothing too serious. What did you want to know about it?

I'm just wondering what type of turbo to look for and what other kinds of mods need to be done (oil lines, intercooler, valves, exhaust). I'm moving in a couple months, hopefully to a place with my own garage, so then I can get working on it. Where did you find parts for your 2.0L?

well, I might be trading my '98 glx jetta for a tdi sometime soon. So, I don't think I should be posting on this thread.
