newbe question

hey guys im new to the site. i have a 95 golf 4dr 2L. since i bought it the tepm gauge doesnt work. im not sure if its the gauge or the thermosta. anyone out there know if there is a way to find out wat is not working right? and i wanna post some pics of my car but not sure how, some one fill me in on how?

try the coolant temperature sensor

The wire that goes to the sensor, ground it out to the block, the temp sensor should be pegged at full temp. If not it's the wiring or the sensor
