Well... There is nothing you can do to make more hp out of that motor. Save up and have mike (mwood) ship you a TD from canada.
By the way Mike, I totaled my GLX if you havent seen the post... Looks like I am going to have to quit my job, and come out to canada... I hope you have a guest room... How hard would it be to get my visa and get a job up there in EH-Land? My life fell apart down here.

how much do you think that would cost to buy a new engine
Mr_Diesel
06-04-2004, 01:20 PM
If you willing to pay a hefty price for shipping, I'm sure Mwood, could find one in canada and ship it to you for a price.

cody and i can work work something out 4 ya...
td engines are ery easy 2 find here and 4 cheap prices, the only prob is the shipping as ive tried they are very picky. but sometime this fall i hope cody might make a trip here and pick a few engines up, and then u can pick one up from him

Don't mod the 1.6NA.... it's ECONOMY only... You will really hurt the engine if you try to race it.

You have being beaten by crappy hondas?? jettas aren't for racing in first place, neither hondas or pickups... Just stay away from morons trying to race you, or ignore them, that will hurt their feelings more than being beaten by you and your jetta.

I second that.

yeah i know there have been way too many times i have almost been killed and my car totaled by some ass hole in a big redneck truck or a dodge caravan just because i pulled out in front of them with more than enough time for them to slow down but they dont and almost ram my back end then they give me a look like its my fault .
but anyways back to my other question do you people think that just because my car is slower than hell that it should look like hell too or should i work on the appearence and wait till i run into more money to do some thing like a tdi engine swap

Make it look sweet dude... Just don't put a fart can, or a body kit on... Don't ruin that early late 80's euro styling. Get some kick ass rims, and lower that bizatch.

lowering yes
91+ bumpers yes
Gay bodykits and wings = no

what about the 16v fenderflares im considering those cause i have some damage and that would probably hide it nicely
Mr_Diesel
06-17-2004, 09:16 PM
They are not "16V fender flares" those "16V fender flares" were on my 91 diesel jetta, and the 88 8V jetta.... But yeah, they would look okay, as long as they are in good shape and not oxidized.

This thread is about how to mod a 1.6L non turbo engine...so why is about how you shouldnt modify it?
There are modifications that increase the engine's economy, like porting the intake, a free flow exhaust ect. If you want a bit more oomph, whats the harm in that?

I rigged up my own ram-air cold intake and i did the valve cover bypass doohicky mod! Now I'm gonna rig up a a 45 degree to where my exhaust is broken and run a straight pipe out the side of the car!
Hopefully ill be able to run 20s in the 1/4 mile :D

My friend has got a turbo and the manifolds from a turbo diesel, i can get them for 150 bucks canadian! I think we're gonna have a TURBO the N/A project this summer! 8O
Being that ill be doing a conversion, hopefully ill have more power than a stock turbo diesel engine, since ill be running an intercooler, oil cooler, bigger rad (already have that) and a 3" exhaust!
Ahhhh, BOV, lol. 8)

That thing won't last for a week. You'll crack the head if you turbo the NA. You'll fry the rings, and melt the pistons. Not to mention, the main bearings will be mush after 200miles. YOU CANNOT TURBO THE N/A without:
1. Replacing the head with a turbo diesel head.
2. Replacing the injector pump with a turbo injector pump. Running boost will starve the engine, and make it run twice as hot, thus melting pistsons and cracking heads.
3. Oil squirters squirting oil on the pistsons are a MUST for cylinder wall cooling... Otherwise metal transfer will occur and the engine will seize. These squirters are non existant in NA engines.
THESE MOTORS ARE NOT MADE FOR BOOST. THEY ARE MADE FOR ECONOMY. There are some things you can do reduce motor restriction, but as far as forced induction, oversized injectors, there really is nothing you can do. You can always stick a K&N in that beast, or run 3 inch pipe for free flowing, but again... There isnt much you can do with an engine with 1.6 Litres of displacement, and a redline rpm or 4,800
defprun
06-24-2004, 09:43 AM
For the oil squirters, will they bolt onto the N/A block? If not, even if they CAN be tapped or whatever, I may just upgrade to a turbo block...or turbo car for that matter.
Doesnt hurt to ask questions
