ok, I need to change my coolant temp sensor. I got one from worldwide auto parts and went to change it out yesterday. However, I found that the new one, won't fit :(

i got the wiring harness off and before i took the sensor out of the block, tried plugging the new one in. The new one is a square shape and the old one is more rounded. Anyone who had playschool toys as a kid, knows squares DO NOT fit into circles :D

This is what the existing one looks like with the wiring harness off

and this is what it looks like with the harness on

This is the temp sensor I got from worldwide

Any advice would help. They say its the right part, yet won't fit. I'm gonna go to a VW place and see what they say.
Please respond if you have any helpful info

Bring it back. It's obviously not the right part. No sence hacking up your wiring harness over something as simple as a temp sensor

How much did it cost you?

That square one looks like the ones they stick on the coolant flange of the 2.0s...

yeah Diesel, that's exactly what it is; a 2.0 sensor

and burn_your_money - it was $32 at the dealership. I wouldn't have gone there unless I had to, but for some reason, nobody had it. I called all over.

So I figured for an extra 10 bucks, I'd make the sacrafice :)

and the wrong one was 24 i think... maybe 22

thanks for all the input guys :)

$32 isn't that bad.
Good to hear you got it figured out. Is the car better now?
