View Full Version : Odd Sound?

So there's this like.. rubbing sound I guess, coming from my front passenger wheel. I can't figure out what it is, it just sounds like something is stuck on the tire and hitting something every time it comes around, cause it speeds up when I speed up, and slows down when I slow down, etc. I have no idea what it is, and I couldn't see anything visible. Could it possibly be a bearing going bad or something? This kinda worries me, thanks for any help.

could be a wheel bearing, could be the tier has worn oddly, the wheel could of become off ballence, you do have alluminum wheels? they could of cane out of true from a pot hole or hard bump. could be allot of things, best thing to do it get it on a lift or jack up that side and let the car run and speed up the car and listen closely.

Doubt it's the tires, they are brand new and just got balanced. I don't think the wheels are aluminum, they are Borbets, not sure what they make their wheels out of.

Does it make the sound if it's in gear as well as when in nuetral?

I concur... I'll bet you 50 bucks it's your wheel bearing. Jack up the side that the noise is coming from... if your wheel bearing is toast your wheel will easilly move in and out with the touch of a hand (whilst jacked up).

Let us know, man... I'd be interested to hear what you find out.

Yes, I think.

I'll look into the wheel bearing, hopefully tonight.

So I forgot to post up about this, I still have the sound. I jacked the car up and messed with the wheels, but both sides move the same amount, nothing seems different on the passenger side wheel. I can't see anything abnormal, but I didn't take the wheels off either to look at it. Would I be able to notice anything wrong if the wheel bearing was going bad? I've been driving on it like this now for a while, and it doesn't appear to have gotten any worse or louder, but I may just be getting used to it. I'd like to fix it before I keep driving on it some more and possibly mess up more than is already wrong. Let me guys know if you have any input, thanks.

Doubt its my brakes, I replaced them rotors and all about 10-15k ago, they are cross-drilled and slotted now. The CV stuff I don't know anything about.

So I drove home the other day with no radio so I could listen for it. I only heard it twice on the entire drive, which is unusual. Both times it was while turning at low speeds. I'm pretty sure it hasn't always just been while turning though, but it has always been at low speeds, but not just during braking I think. I'll try to examine it more, but that's all the info I have for now.
