View Full Version : Lowering Compression before going Turbo?

Is it bad for the car if I put a low compression head gasket on before I install my turbo? I want to install a low compression gasket, and some ARP head studs, but I don't think I'll be able to do all that AND install the turbo at the same time. Would I lose an unbearable amount of power, or even worse, could I hurt the engine? Thanks for any help.

hurt the motor no, loose power yes. figure you loose about 10hp every point of compression. so if you drop it from 10.1-8.1 you loose 7hp. around. crank power.

That's not too bad, I could handle that for a week or two till I put the turbo in
