I was thinking that when i start a real job after college I'm gonna take my Jetta and turn it into a Track-Spec Car...
I've decided a few things...I'm gonna keep it an automatic and i'm gonna keep it a 2.0 and I'm gonna rebuild the engine stronger than ever...Forged Piston, Chromoly Rods, Titanium Valve Springs, etc...So here are the really big questions: Supercharger or Turbo? Can I use an OEM Auto Tranny from a 1.8T or VR6 or does the 2.0 engine have to match the tranny?
What do you think? I'd like some input on this... ANY AND ALL IDEAS are welcome, I'd definately like to hear from you guys...But, Honestly I want this thing to be able to go on rallies, like the Players Run, Casino Run, Car and Drive "one Lap around america" just because there are NEVER any VW's especially Jetta's in these types of races and someone has to represent VW's everywhere...
Hey Cody...Could you design an awesome windshield vinyl for the car?

In all honesty, I really don't know a whole lot about MkIVs when it comes to which transmission will fit to what engine, but I can tell you that a super or turbo is going to shred the bands in your automatic transmission... If you absolutly had to run an automatic, I would look at 1.8T transmissions, cause I am sure they are built to handle it a little bit better... I have seen people try to run anywhere between 220-250whp with the stock 1.8T auto tranny, and the transmission just doesnt last.
There is a reason the Jetta isnt seen in rally races. Abscence of AWD being one of them. The MkIV is heavy.
Do yourself a favor.... You want a rally racer, find a older late 80's early 90's smaller audi (such as the audi 80) with quattro. You'll put more time and money into trying to make an automatic 2.0L MKIV than you would ever put into an AWD audi and you would probably never get anything out of it other than headaches and broken parts.
If you MUST keep it MkIV, 1.8T is the answer. 90% of the work is already done for you. The 1.8T has 20 valves. 5 per cylinder. The 2.0 has 8 valves. It's a factory tuned turbo engine... can't beat that. You'll spend 10 or 15,000 dollars turbocharging a 2.0L engine to get the same power from a 1.8T that you have put 2,500 dollars into. Don't waste your money, man.

Diesel-i think he is talking about road rallies, not WRC type stuff
anyway matty, you need to decide what you want. you say you want it to be "track spec", so is it going to be a racer? if so i would say ditching the auto tranny and 2.0 is a must! plus you need to decide which sanctioning body you will be racing with so you know the required "spec" for the series.
but then you say you want to go on road rallies, which would make it more of a touring car. in that case you would still want a different motor/tranny since the gearing for 2.slows suck and you will want a TON more power.
just some things to think about. btw, here is a "track spec" jetta that was at dubwars, which i just returned from. plus it raced in the speed world challenge which was just last weekend here in slc.

Ok I've decided on a whole bunch of stuff...
First I found the Track Style Body Kit...(It's the first Slide Show you see)
http://www.autotech.com/prod_aero_zender_mk4jetta.htm
Then, instead of the 2.0 NA Gutted Car with an Automatic I decided to go with the Stage II Supercharged VR6 with a 6-Speed from....
Stage I

Stage II

I'm gonna keep the stock exhaust, but with a twist...

And a KW Suspension...

Ok that should start me off pretty nicely...Any thoughts? I'd love them all...
PS- This isn't some bullshiznit wish list or me just spouting off, I do have the means to go through with this and the car will be complete no later than spring 2008...Proper planning and negotiating is to be done first, then a proper car needs to be bought after I sell the 2.0...So lots of prep-time needs to be put into this project and this is my favorite part...
