I hate getting work done on my car at a shop. I really do.
But you know when you just don’t have time to do the work yourself, its just easier…
Anyhow, about 6 mo back I had a shop replace my water pump, and they said for $10 more they would do my thermostat, it was cheap so I said ok…
One thing that did bother me was my engine temps were a lot higher after…
So I thought they replaced the stock one with a 180F (~80C) thermostat..
So after being fed up with my high temps for long enough, I get a new one and replace it myself with a 160F (~70C) and to my surprise, they didn’t use a stock part at all…
And I didn’t originally have a 160F one installed… No this guy put a 192F (90C) thermostat in. And you cant even buy that normally, I have no idea what he was thinking… no wonder my temps were way to high. And with the new 160F in, engine runs way cooler… And that makes me much happier, seeing how summer is comming up and all.
Moral of the story, (beside I like rambling), make time to fix stuff you know how to do so the job is done right. As its really easy to put fixing something off that still works.
