ok my brothers cabarolet blew its engine. from overheating. so i got to pick it apart and take what i needed for my car. 1 was the connector for my coolant temp sensor. now my car has run without it connected since i got it. so i don't know how it should run with it but i hope its not like this! ok my idle without it was kinda rough at first but then it stedyed out at about 1100rpms. when the sensor is pluged in it runs way rich! then sounds like its misfireing and i get a cloud of black smoke so i turn the car off. please help. my car ran like **** before now its worse when i try to fix what could of been causeing it. is the sensor bad its self?

That might be your prob right there.. The mk2's have a blue temp sensor.. Does your temp sensor work in the dash?

yea it works. the O2 sensor is bad. i unpluged that and most of the problems went away. i went to a local junkyard and there were over 6 A2's and one 2 had blue clip in sensors. there are many types of coolant temp sensors. there is a white one, blue, brown, grey. i the blue clips in. the brown and white thred in and are different looking. i have 1. ill try to scan it cause i don't have my friends digital camera. but for now its working without the O2 sensor pluged in. so i got to get a new one of those then ill see if it is the coolant temp 2.
