well for one, you can't use your stock engine.. and i have a feeling you are wanting to get into a project that's a little over your head..

before you should get turbo you should get a 5-speed! :D
but on the seriois side you would have to do alot of mods to get your wengine ready to handle a turbo!
what engine do you have and do you have any mods?

yeah ta turbo your gonna need a thick copper headgasket for one to lower compression so you dont wreck your motor, you'll prolly need digifant 1 from a corrado g60 possibly the head from one too since it has sodium filled exhaust valves (resist high exhaust temps) among other things....you can use a turbo diesel exhaust manifold (modified a bit) and a few other things im leaving out....most of the little ish

not to mention you need all fordged internals

no you dont, thats why you get the thick headgasket to reduce the C:R
plenty of pleople are rockin turbo's on the tex without fordged internals...if your gonna go to that extreme start with a g60 lump you wont have to upgrade anything inside
also you dont really need forged internals unless your gonna run high boost

its still gonna kill the pistons and crank after time. so if you want to keep your car you might as well just do a teardown and put in fordged internals. you can't run much boost. if you tear it down and junk you can probley run alot more and for alot longer.

mang... keep the automatic tranny... it's more convienient. Buy this:
EIP CUSTOM MULTILAYER 4 CYLINDER METAL HEAD GASKET
Each EIP 4 cylinder 3 Layer metal head-gasket is manufactured from multiple layers of steel to make certain that the appropriate head to block seal is created, even under the challenging conditions of forced induction applications. The EIP head-gasket, features a unique stainless steel spacer that is capable of resisting rigorous high temperature levels and corrosion, which is often associated with high-horsepower and high-boost conditions. EIP 3 layer metal head-gaskets also feature the factory o-ring outer gasket surfaces to further ensure a good seal between the block and head. Available for VW 1.8L G-60, MK3 2.0L 8V, MK4 2.0L 8V and MK4 1.8T 20V.
Benefits:
1. Lowers compression and offers a proper seal between the block and head.
2. Easy to install and does not require machine work (less downtime, less expense)
On Sale: $149.95
This is availible for the 1.8L 8V which is technically the G-60 block and head... Slap that on your car, and add your turbo... Push only about 7-10 psi, and your engine will last 30,000 to 40,000 miles before engine death.

the g60 block is heat treated.. It's not the same as a regular 1.8L..
You should really do your research on this chit before you go slappin a turbo on your stock 1.8L mk2 engine..
Putin a head gasket isn't going to save it from excessive heat to the block and potentially cracking the block..
On the auto tranny, you may want to look into puting kits into it, because you will be blowin converters as the stock trans converter can't handle the torque put through it..
