Hey folks,

I know I'm an infrequent visitor here, in fact I don't think I've posted since it moved to this site! Still get the newsletters though...

My Jetta has been wrecked by some fool in a Toyota 4runner who ran a red light and smacked into the side of me, sent me spinning into the sidewalk where I collided with some sort of green iron pole (?) apparently. Anyway, it's wrecked but I have only a bruised hip. VW safety, saved my life.
This happened about a week ago, and I've been pondering what car to get next. And it's settled. Another VW!

Anyone in the Bay Area know of Jettas and Golfs for sale, let me know. I found a nice 95 Jetta III GLX 2.8l for sale in Hayward for $4k on Autotrader, but haven't had a look yet. I'll be looking for a 95 to 97 model similar, but no aftermarket or fancy stuff as I park on the street and it will probably get knicked. A to B car in good shape, was 4 cylinder before but now I might ramp it up for those boring commutes down 280.

Shad.

Glad to hear you're getting another vw, but sorry for the loss of your previous one. Hope your hip is ok as well, safety first :)

Dunno how the diesels are in california, but I'll tell you what... If you can find a TDI, that would sure spruce up your commuter car and still get 45mpg... They have tons of torque, and are pretty quick... If diesel is not your thing, then definatly get the 2.8L VR6... They engines sound amazing... They are very quick too...

I wish I had more time tonight to help you choose, but tomorrow I will try to go deeper into the explanation.

Also, now that I think of it, I think the TDI is really stifeled in California due to the emissions laws for diesels and smog, which really sucks. Sounds like 4 or 5,000 is your price range... You can get an awesome 95-96 Jetta VR6 for that if you look around. Anyway, let me know what you find!
