I have just purchased this car. It came with a French Owners Manual. I don't read French that well. I just had a light come on last night and I don't know what it means. It is in the center of the cluster. It looks like a circle with 2 serated brackets around it. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Dubnet, man!
According to the bently manual, that is the warning light for brake wear. I was looking at my instrument cluster when I had it out, and I noticed that mine had the place for this, but there was no bulb installed... There is no real "problem" for say, but you are going to want to have your brakes inspected and possibly replaced... Usually, only the front brakes need to be replaced... I've see instances where the rear brake pads/drums can live through the replacement of up to 4 or 5 sets of pads on the front... A brake job is not really that costly, but it can get up there.... It's very easy to do yourself if you think you are up to it. A set of front brake pads for the MkIV are probably going to be about 30 - 40 US dollars.
If you have basic metric tools, then you should be able to do the job yourself at no additional cost.
I am hoping what I am talking about is the actual light you are referring to, cause you can sort of see another light right next to the one in this picture:

Does yours have the dotted line brackets around it??? If so it's the brakes... If not, then I'll have to do a bit more digging to find out what that other light means.

Did some digging... the light directly to the left of that one is the Emergency Brake indicator light. All Volkswagens in the world (except united states) have that icon instead of "Brake".

Thanks for replying.I will for sure check that out. At least it is not something overly pricey. Gotta go. Have to get back to Philly, Indy football.

Since you are in TO you would have had to get a safety done to get this car. If the brakes passed but need to be replaced I would question where you got that safety done. I know some "mechanics" will make a fake safety for a couple of bucks.

Is that a WoW box?
Oh, and relating to the topic, I wouldn't exactly call brake replacement easy, but it isn't TOO bad I guess...
Heck of a lot easier on american cars.. I'll tell ya that.
