I got an estimate from the local Minute Muffler (only muffler shop in town) that it'd cost $205 CAN incl. tax to get a new muffler installed along with the tailpipe and a little bit of pipe leading to the muffler.

I really don't want to spend $205. I've only got $130 in my pocket and I get paid on friday so another $400 or so but really, $205 for a stock-style muffler isn't really what I want when I get some aftermarket dealio for so much less.

So anyway, anyone know of a DIY for installing a new muffler without welding? I have some friends that weld but they're as busy as I am with college and/or work so there's a fat chance of getting anything done, especially now that it's cold outside.

Basically, I need about 3 inches of pipe leading to the muffler (what's there is rusted to shiat) as well as the muffler and a tail pipe. I was thinking of just one of those $10 polished tailpipes from Canadian tire because they're probably cheaper, any muffler, and then getting enough pipe to make everything fit, but then I'd need to use those clamp dealios.

It's either this or I try to find a cheap muffler and pay $70/h labour for about an hour to get the shop to weld it on for me.

By the way, if anyone's wondering why I don't want to spend my money... I calculated my next two years of school and they'll cost me at least $21,000 between tuition/supplies/rent/food/transport. Since I won't have a car while I'm at college (it'll be parked at home 1,400km away) I don't want to spend a whole lot on it.

It will probably leak some.... Just buy a aftermarket one, I know here in utah it only costed me like $20 to have some 3" pipe welded on from my muffler back it probably would have only been like $10 more to have them weld on the whole muffler.

If you need a cheap muffler I have one from a rabbit. It should work good for you.
I know that not all exhaust systems are welded together, my vette is all clamped together. Just get some of that exhaust sealent crap and put it between the joints.

clamping works just fine.

Yeah, Canadian Tire has plenty of clamps and sealant stuff. I should just find an aftermarket muffler and do it up. The only problem is that they only have cherry bombs and fart cans :@ I need to find a place with a decent muffler for under $80 or so.
