well it is not new but it is new to me. I just bought not to long ago a 2001 vr6. So far i love the car, I am just wondering what some of the first things i could do to it. I have the certified warranty on it so i dont know what would void that. Plus is the 2001 a good year, i was reading some other places people saying some neg things about it.

I wouldn't know about the warranty since my one and only ever car is a 1986, but I'm pretty sure you can't do anything to the engine but can do wheels/tires, so if I were you I'd get a light weight, good looking, low-pro tire/rim combo.

I guess if you can't do anything to the engine/tranny/drivetrain you can do stuff to reduce weight and what-not.

Well.... first I would tell you to untame the sound of that bad ass engine... First thing "I" would do is cut some holes in the airbox to let the sound out. The VR6 is the most amazing sounding engine EVER. Since you really can't destroy the stock equipment, I would first look at getting a k&n cone filter. That will allow all that sound to escape the engine. You will also get 1 or 2 hp out of it.

Next I would untame the exhaust sound. If you don't want to spend a whole lot, buy a flowmaster muffler, and have a muffler shop remove the resonator and the muffler, and weld in that flowmaster. That should give you about 3hp, and it will sound way bad ass...

Third, I would chip it. Just get the conservative chip from neuspeed.... That won't void your warrant, or cause a check engine light.

www.neuspeed.com

That will improve throttle response, and give you a few hp, and a few lb ft of torque.

That's a good place to get started. Why don't you post some pictures of this sucker?!

I think i will do an air intake for it. that will be the first thing i will do. I like the way it looks stock i got it with the 17in wheel package, so there is plenty of rubber there for me.

your right the vr6 does sound bad ass. It is hard to keep off the gas in this car. I finally hit the the triple digits in it the other day. Did not think it was going that fast. that was with three bikes on top of the thing.

I think an air intake will void the warranty, unless you just put in a k&n cone filter, not a whole new intake.

Intake will void the warranty for sure, possibly the cone as well. Dealerships are extremely strict on warranties, any performance mod from intake to suspension will void the warranty.

Just make sure you put the stock airbox and filter back on before you take it into the dealership to have any work done on it, and they will never know. Thats why I said, don't hack up your airbox so you can put it back on if the needs be. Dont do anything dramatic until the warranty is gone.

Like he said... the dealer is very strict, but again... just make sure you can revert back to factory equipment if you need to go in to have warranty work done.

this is not true! most dealerships dont care about little things like air intakes and the like. i just went to the dealership because my top 2 bolts holding the turbo to the mani were coming out, and they warrantied it. i have an intake, downpipe, chip(giac sticker in the engine bay lol) etc and they didnt care. the only thing they would make a fuss about is if you had the intake and your maf took a crap.

If the dealer can pin any broken part on you for installing an aftermarket part, then they'll do it...

For instance.. If your ECU takes a crap, then won't warant it if there is a chip installed. Like you said about the maf as well... Most things like intake and exhaust, they are okay with.

Super nice car. Makes me want to get the 5 lug swap on mine done faster for some different wheels. Possibly Montes like what you are running or some BBS RC's.
