I'm looking at a 89 Jetta GLI 16V... It's got the complete recarro interior, power everything.... Has a brand new rebuilt motor with less than 100 miles on it... Drives like a dream (with minimal "VW Noises").... What should I expect to pay for something like this?

from KBB.com
Private Party Value $1,760
: 4-Cyl. 1.8 Liter
Trans: 5 Speed Manual
Drive: Front Wheel Drive
Mileage: 100,000
Equipment
Power Steering
AM/FM Stereo
Alloy Wheels
Consumer Rated Condition: Good
"Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. The paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. In states where rust is a problem, this should be very minimal, and a deduction should be made to correct it. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A clean title history is assumed. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail; however major reconditioning should be deducted from the value. Most recent model cars owned by consumers fall into this category.
Private Party Value $1,760
Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party.

Well, he's selling it for 2,000!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm gonna buy it on payday... I'm sick of this slow diesel crap. I'll keep the diesel for commuting and crap, but as far as this 16V is concerned, i'll most likely get www.eiptuning.com 's turbo system for it.

well find out who did the rebuild. rebuilds can alwas have been done wrong and a few thousand miles later something catastrofic*sp can happen. do a little reaserch into it.

He did it. He's a mechanic. The motor runs real great... I took it on a 25 mile trip. The only reason he is getting rid of it is because (since he is a mechanic) he gets great deals on cars... So he had like 15 cars on his 1 house lot, and the police in my city are making him get rid of most of them... Plus his wife want's it gone... Otherwise he rebuilt it, and put atleast 3 times the worth of the car into rebuilding the engine and getting it running good, but due to the police and his wife, he is getting rid of it.... Like I say, the motor runs great, and he is a on the side mechanic... It was done right, plus that doesnt matter anyway, because I'm going to tear the block apart to install forged pistsons anyway... So that's beside the point.

The actual appholstry is in excellent shape but the foam in that little wedge is worn out, and the wedge actually kinda flattened out, so that'll be the first thing I do is take the seats out and have that restuffed or fixed somehow.... Other than some minor wear on the seats, the car is incredible... The exterior is a bit better than average for an 89', but if I decide to keep the car, and not swap the stuff into a 91 or 92, then I'll probably have the body shop totally refinish the exterior, after the big bumper conversion, that is.

Either big bumpers or a 91' to 92' chassis conversion, is a DEFINATE for the car.... I can't stand small bumpers.

i dont under stand why you would swap everything from a 89 to a 91 92...its the same damn car and if the body is in good condition why do it? the small bumper thing isnt a big deal but the other thing is...:-/

I'm just saying it would be cost effective to find a 91 or 92, for less than a 2,500 dollar body and paint job... It all depends... I MIGHT... (and i mean MIGHT) just keep the car original.

Update:
Car had very very bad oil pressure problems... Needless to say, this idea was scrubbed. :(
