I just went through tank full of gass at a normal driving rate and i got 20 mpg...does that sound about right or does that seem a bit low?

Seems low, you should get like 23-24, or at least I usually do. 29-30 on the hwy

I make a 400 mile drive every other weekend... This means I usually do all highway on one tank... Highway I get about 33mpg.

Mind you this is on a 200,000 mile engine going 85-95mph up and down hills.

City I get about 24-26... Since I got my jetta, I have averaged out my mpg ... Since march of this year, 20,000 miles later I averaged 29.8mpg average....

20mpg is the mpg you get when you hammer a vr6 all the time.... You can hammer the hell out of a 2.0 and still get 25mpg atleast.

I don't get quite that good, probably cause I really need to replace my o2 sensor

my vr isnt' getting that good of mileage anymore. im lucky to hit 22city i get on it but not allot. i think its running rich. i hooked up an air/fuel ratio guage and floored im at full rich. so i need to have it checked or somthing. i want like 1 rich light.

The reading you get from your oxgen sensor, is the reading the ECU sees..... If you are running full rich, then the ECU sees that you are running full rich, and will in turn cut the fuel... The only accurate way to test air to fuel ratio is to get a brand new oxygen sensor, and run it on it's own circuit, and leave the ECU's oxygen sensor alone.... That way, you can truely see what is happening, and not what an old oxygen sensor tells you... They lie.... Like a cheap rug from sears... beware.... So yeah... If your guague tells you it's running full rich, then I would suspect other problems in the sensors... Like... mabey a bad maf... Or bad coolant temperature sensors.... The ECU is injection too much fuel for a reason... I would test your sensors via what Bently says is in spec for factory.

wouldn't i get a CEL? ive been getting O2 sensor codes but its intermittent

dunno...

Just consider the facts... if the AF gauge is telling you it's rich, then thats the reading the ECU sees... If the ECU sees rich, it should be cutting fuel.

I calculated my mpg when I filled up last night. I got only 24.65 mpg in the city on premium fuel... I really should get that o2 sensor fixed, lol. Last time I went on a road trip, I calculated it at around 29 mpg, and that was when the brass fitting on my throttle body kept coming out, which can't help gas mileage. I finally got some stretchy material to tie it down, and it's still on there. Hopefully, this new throttle body that I got won't have that problem. I bought one so I can deramp it

Wait would the fact that I use Regular gas(89 octane) be the reason for my low gas mileage? Or Do you believe that I could have another problem (Which i dont see how being that i just had my whole engine rebuilt/tuned)??

I usually use regular (87 octane here) and still get better gas mileage than you, so I don't think that's the problem.

Okay, so this engine is supposed to get 22city and 29 highway according to the epa... I get significantly higher than that... and my engine has a shizload of miles on it... I don't know but I guess something is wrong with my car?

i found that when you spray the MAF with tons of Electric contact spray it makes a hell of a difference. my vr is hauling even more ass now. and i picked up 3 more MPG. and when i floor it my air/fuel isn't reading full rich. so yay.
